Video being removed is just a start: Band According to Sujith Unnithan, from the music label that owns the song Navarasam by Thaikkudam Bridge, the band that moved a case against the Kantara team, alleging that the song Varaha Roopam was a rip off, the track being removed from one video streaming platform is just the beginning. ![]() The song removal, without any explanation from the team, has raised several eyebrows. The court, favouring Mathrubhumi, had said, “The respondents are restrained from exhibiting, releasing on OTT platforms, streaming, distributing or communicating to the public the film Kantara with the synchronized song Varaha Roopam until further orders.” However, Kantara makers had denied all the allegations and had said they would face the issue legally. The Kozhikode court, on October 28, had ‘injuncted the Kantara producer, director, music composer and as well as various music streaming platforms from playing the song Varaha Roopam without the permission of Thaikkudam Bridge.’ On November 2, the Palakkad Court passed the ad-interim injunction order in a copyright infringement suit filed by Mathrubhumi Printing and Publishing Company Ltd, which holds copyright over the Navarasam song. Three days later, they approached the Kozhikode District Court alleging that the Varaha Roopam song is the rip-off of their song, Navarasam, which was released in the year 2015. The controversy erupted on October 24 when the Kerala-based music band, Thaikkudam Bridge, took to Instagram and levelled plagiarism allegations against the makers of Kantara. However, the song is still available on the platform as part of the audio jukebox, as well as on other music platforms. ![]() Kantara’s most popular and controversial song, Varaha Roopam, has now been officially removed from the film’s production house Hombale Film’s official online channel.
